How to Install a NATO Watch Strap: A Step-by-Step Tutorial

In this tutorial we will advise you on how to install your NATO Watch Strap. Installing a NATO strap can seem daunting at first, but we assure you that once you have installed one or two, it will become second nature!

Step 1 - Get Your Parts Ready

Firstly, make sure that you have everything prepared. You will need 2 spring bars, a spring bar tool (to add the spring bars), watch (with original strap removed) and your NATO Strap.

For our tutorial today we have used out Herringbone NATO watch strap in Dark Blue.

Step 2 - Install Your Spring Bars To Your Watch

Adding spring bars to watch

Unlike with a two-piece strap, the first step is adding your spring bars to your watch. Use your spring bar tool to apply your spring bars to your watch.

TIP - Place one end of the spring bar in your watch and then use the spring bar tool to gently move the other pin into place so it clicks into position.

Step 3 - Separate The Short End From The Long End

If you haven't done so already, make sure that the short end of your NATO Watch Strap is separated from the long end. This will make things much easier when it comes to adding your strap.

Step 4 - Feed The Long End Through the First Spring Bar

Place the NATO Strap with the buckle and the NATO loops facing downwards. Feed the long end of the NATO Strap through the 12 o'clock position with the watch also lying on its face.

TIP - To check that you have installed the strap the right way around, if you turn the watch over, the buckle and loops should be front showing with the buckle at the 12 o'clock end.

Step 5 - Feed The Long End Through The Second Spring Bar

Feed the same Long End of the NATO Strap through the second spring bar.

Step 6 - Pass The Short End Through The Long End

Next, you will need to feed the Long End of the NATO Strap through the loop on the loose Short End.

TIP - You can re-adjust the strap whilst the watch is on the NATO to ensure the watch is aligned in the middle of the NATO watch loops.
